Shomrei Torah Synagogue Sisterhood
Sisterhood membership offers you many choices and connects you to a deeply committed group of women. These women are of all ages and backgrounds; many hold professional positions in the community, some are full time homemakers, while others are retired. What brings them all together is their love of Shomrei Torah Synagogue, Judaism, learning and their desire to support our synagogue.
Make this the year that you join Sisterhood and attend one of the many interesting Sisterhood sponsored lectures, activities, dinners or programs. Interested in doing a little more? How about helping us with program development, fundraising, participating in a Women's Shabbat Service or Women's Seder, volunteering in the Sisterhood Judaica Gift Shop, Social Action/Israeli Affairs? Whenever you have the time or the inclination to participate, we are holding a place for you!
We are urging every woman at Shomrei Torah Synagogue, join us!
January was a busy month for Sisterhood. Our Game Night on January 11th was a lot of fun! We'll do it again on February 8th. On January 18th, author Maggie Anton enlightened us about her latest book, 50 Shades of Talmud. Thank you, Deanna Bayer, for arranging this entertaining evening for us. On January 21st, a very talented team of Sisterhood members, led by Judy Yaniv Goldberg and Robin Solomon, produced an extraordinary event, Women's League Havdalah and Torah Fund Dinner. The theme for the evening was "The Fruit of her hands." An Art Exhibit beautifully displayed the works of our talented Shomrei Torah women. Also, that evening Randi Alfasso, Sisterhood's Publicity and Visual Tech Chair, was awarded the Chayei Olam Award, an award given to honor Randi for her particularly significant contribution to the growth of our Sisterhood. Our other Award recipient, Gerilyn Shorten, Zahavah's Co-Chair, was honored with the Kol Isha Award. This award was given to Gerilyn because of her leadership potential and her particularly significant contribution to the growth of our Sisterhood. Both awards acknowledge the recipients' development of Women's League and/or Torah Fund. On January 23rd. Project Open Hands hosted a special evening of hand crafting items for the less fortunate to wear to keep them warm. Thank you, Carol Levin and Karen Nebel for this and all your Social Action projects. You really make a difference. There will be another Crafting Night in February. And Jewish Women's Theatre kicked off their new season of entertaining performances on January 29th with "The Matzo Ball Diaries." There are still two more shows for you to enjoy...one in March and one in May. Buy tickets now if don't already have them.Kol tuv...B'shalom...Linda WolfPresidentShomrei Torah Synagogue Sisterhood
